| JHED First Time Login - Point your web browser to http://jhed.johnshopkins.edu
- Perform a search for yourself. Entering your Last Name first and your First Name second. Select “Go”
- Find your name in the Search Results and take note of your LID (Login ID). The LID is an 8 character id that consists of first initial, lastname (up to 6 characters) and a number on the end to maintain uniqueness. For example, the LID for Johns Hopkins would be jhopkin1, with the second Johns Hopkins being jhopkin2, etc.
- Once you’ve determined your JHED ID, go to the “Login” tab of your JHED window. Once there, go to “First Time Login/Reset my Password” box.
- Enter your JHED ID and Submit.
- In order to continue, you will need to verify your identity by entering your Social Security Number (SSN) and Date of Birth (D.O.B). This information is highly confidential and protected. As you enter your information, you will notice that your input is being masked. Also, this information is being sent over a secure connection, which can be verified by locating the yellow lock at the bottom right-hand side of your browser. It will be in the “locked” position.
- Once your information has been verified, you will be prompted to choose and verify a new password. A password must be at least 8 characters long but no longer than 40, and in addition to 2 alphabetic characters, they must also include at least two non-alphabetic characters. For example, digits (0-9) or symbols.
- Finally, you will be required to create a “Secret Question and Answer”. These two pieces of information will also be unique to you and will be used if you ever forget your password and want to create a new one. As long as you have an e-mail account listed, you may request that your secret question be e-mailed to you and use the secret answer during the login process.
